In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a groom-to-be, Bright Ezechukwu, met a tragic end just hours before his wedding day in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. According to reports, Bright was ambushed and fatally shot by gunmen on November 22, 2024, while returning from Ihiala town with his fiancée, Chinwendu, and their bridal party.
The couple had planned to tie the knot the following day, November 23, but their dreams were shattered when the assailants struck at Ezego Junction along the Onitsha-Ihiala-Owerri expressway. Bright had stopped to refuel his motorcycle when he was attacked. His best man, unaware of the tragedy, rode ahead before realizing Bright was no longer following. Upon backtracking, he found Bright lying lifeless in a pool of blood, having been shot twice in the head.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the attackers, who were armed and on motorcycles, demanded Bright’s possessions, including his phone, motorcycle, and personal belongings. Despite complying and pleading for mercy, the gunmen coldly executed him, even taking a flask of food meant for the couple’s final night before their big day.
Bright, described by friends and family as a kind and peace-loving man, was denied the joy of stepping into married life. The brutal killing has left the community in shock, mourning the loss of a promising young man whose life was cruelly cut short.
